CURATOR - REDOUBT MUSEUM The Redoubt is an early C19th fortress on the Eastbourne seafront, one of only three built to support the line of Martello Towers along the South coast and also as a defensive bastion to resist an expected French invasion. It is a listed building, a Scheduled Ancient Monument and in itself, unique. Since the early 1980's The Redoubt has housed a military museum and plans are currently being drawn up to expand the heritage offer by developing 'The Story of Eastbourne' within its sturdy walls. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised, dedicated and effective heritage professional to focus their skills on the management and care of the extensive collections in the Heritage Service's care at the Redoubt Fortress in Eastbourne. This will include a complete review of the military collections, together with full documentation and the identification of conservation needs and issues. The role will also involve the working up of new acquisition and disposal policies and revisiting our collections to ensure they have a sustainable future. The successful candidate will be joining the Heritage Service at a particularly exciting time of redevelopment at the Redoubt and this role will be integral to the success of this process. You will either be a qualified professional or have extensive experience of collection management. Be able to work well in a small team and have a flexible approach, an engaging and enthusiastic personality and an excellent communicator.
