Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. There will be 850,000 people with dementia in the UK by 2015 with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025.

When it comes to dementia, the facts tell a powerful story. There will be 850,000 people with dementia in the UK by 2015 – and that number is set to rise to over 1 million by 2025. But these facts get more complicated when you look at them from a local level. West Sussex, East Sussex and Brighton & Hove have the largest over-80’s population in England and there are already around 27,451 people with dementia across this geographical area.

So it will come as no surprise that we can offer you a stimulating and challenging career as part of our local team.

The See Haven Club based in Eastbourne and Bexhill is a day support service for those with a diagnosis of early onset dementia (under the age of 65)

The Day Support Manager will deputise in the absence of the Day Support Manager and will work to implement the operational aspects of the Day Support service that will be delivered to people with dementia and their carers.

Day Support is sometimes called ‘day services’ or ‘day care’ and involves providing formally arranged support for a group of people with dementia in a safe and secure environment using trained staff (and volunteers). The service may be provided at a particular centre, or may involve activities in the community such as going to the cinema or swimming.

To be successful in this role you will need to be a well-motivated, resourceful and creative person, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a busy service environment. You will have demonstrable experience of managing a team and you will be comfortable working collaboratively and liaising across departments and with partner organisations. Ideally you will possess an in depth understanding of the needs of people with dementia and their carers as well as qualifications at NVQ level 3 or above (or equivalent). Experience of working in the voluntary sector or a care setting is desirable. You must be able to travel independently within the area. Alzheimer’s Society is committed to equal opportunities.
