Our ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted judgement (June 2015) was only the start of the story. The challenge is to sustain and embed this excellence through every aspect of Gildredge House as it grows to full capacity in 2018/19.

As Head of Department: Art and Design Technology you will lead a strong, growing team of inspirational teachers and ensure that our students enjoy and achieve highly in their Art and Design Technology learning. This is an exciting time to join our Art and Design Technology Department, with opportunities for professional development in the company of talented practitioners. First and foremost, you will be a talented artist / crafts-person and an experienced teacher. You are likely to be an Art specialist in the secondary phase and ideally you can teach this subject to A Level. You should also possess the skills and enthusiasm for teaching another Design Technology subject - Food Technology, Product Design, Resistant Materials or Textiles – possibly to A Level, to GCSE or at least KS3.

All students in the secondary phase of Gildredge House from in Years 7 - 9 enjoy a broad based curriculum which includes creative subjects offered in a modular approach. This enables our students to develop a range of artistic and technical skills and experience and experiment with a variety of media over the course of three years. Such an approach provides an excellent foundation for GCSE, A Level and beyond. From Year 10, students will have the opportunity of taking a range of Art and Design Technology subjects through to GCSE and eventually A Level.

In September 2015, Gildredge House opened its Sixth Form and immediately welcomed talented students to study Art and Design at A Level. We have once again attracted a cohort of A Level Art and Design students for September 2016. This, with the popularity of Art and Design subjects at GCSE, means that we ideally need strong A Level and GCSE teachers across all Art and Design Technology disciplines. At Gildredge House you will immediately find yourself engaged with talented, hard-working and committed students with a desire to take their learning to the highest level.

At Gildredge House we are aspiring towards specialist status in Science and Technology, which we understand to cover the ‘STEAM’ subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. The position and popularity of Art and Design Technology in our growing school mean that each year we need to add to our already strong team. As such, you need to have flexibility and adaptability in terms of new ideas and approaches and a willingness to work with other Departments in the school, including Science and Mathematics. As an all-through school, our teachers also have the opportunity to engage with and enhance the primary creative arts curriculum. If you have additional experience in this phase of education, we are keen to hear from you.

Gildredge House has begun to look for opportunities to develop formative relationships with our wider community through the medium of Art and Design Technology. The school has already developed links with groups such as Eastbourne Studio Pottery with the opportunity for future meaningful collaboration which we would like you to be keen to lead. We are also exploring the potential for expansion of the Arts into dedicated new premises on the school site within the next few years. It would help our proposed development if you have experience of developing new facilities and resources and managing change within and existing operation. Are you passionate about the place of both Art and Design Technology in contributing to the wider life of the school and beyond? Then you could be just what we are looking for.
