About the Role

We are looking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Teacher of Geography for our new and expanding 4-19 free school. Teachers in the early stage of their career would benefit from the wealth of experience and talent amongst the teachers in Geography, which is part of Humanities, one of the outstanding departments of our school, and Newly Qualified Teachers are welcome to apply.

Our ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted judgement (June 2015) was only the start of the story. The challenge is to sustain and embed this excellence through every aspect of Gildredge House as it grows to full capacity in 2018/19.

As Teacher of Geography you will join a strong team of inspirational teachers and ensure that our students enjoy and achieve highly in their Geography learning. You will be a Geography specialist in the secondary phase and ideally you can teach this subject to A Level. Ideally you also possess the skills and enthusiasm for teaching another Humanities subject to at least KS3. As an all-through school, our teachers also have the opportunity to engage with and enhance the primary Geography curriculum. If you have additional experience in this phase of education, we are keen to hear from you.

All Gildredge House all students study the discrete subjects of Geography, History and Philosophy and Belief in Years 7 and 8 and have the opportunity of taking these Humanities subjects through to GCSE and eventually A Level. Last year we were proud to have been awarded the Secondary Geography Quality Mark (SGQM) by the Geographical Association (GA) in recognition of our innovative approach to the teaching of Geography. Gildredge House was one of only 46 schools across the country this year to receive this award.

In September 2015, Gildredge House opened its Sixth Form and immediately welcomed talented students to study Humanities subjects, including Geography and Sociology at A Level. We have once again attracted a strong cohort of A Level Humanities students for September 2016. This, with the core position (as an EBacc subject) and popularity of Geography at GCSE, means that we ideally need strong A Level and GCSE teachers. At Gildredge House you will immediately find yourself engaged with talented, hard-working and committed students with a desire to take their learning to the highest level.

In the Sixth Form, students will additionally have the opportunity to commence A Level courses in Politics, Psychology and Sociology. All of these, whilst subject areas in their own right, are part of the Humanities Department at the school. Once the school is full, the Humanities will be a large Faculty of related subjects.

Do you want to be part of a school where your contribution is valued and celebrated?

Would you like to teach children with high aspirations who are keen to learn?

Gildredge House offers:
