Starting Salary: three point salary range starting at Point 20 on the Gildredge House Support Staff Scale 19,107 (pro rata 16,489) – Point 22 on the Gildredge House Support Staff Scale 20,315

Note: Governors have recently approved an additional 0.5% pay increase in addition to the national standard of living increase in 2017-18.

Contract type: Permanent, 45 weeks per year (includes 38 weeks term-time plus 1 week of INSET, 3 weeks’ paid holiday plus other specified periods amounting to 3 weeks) Working pattern: 35 hours per week. Time off in lieu may be available for additional work undertaken in busy periods. In addition some over-time may be available.

About the Role

We are looking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of IT Technician to work within our IT team, providing an outstanding level of support service to our school community.

Our ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted judgement (June 2015) was only the start of the story. The challenge is to sustain and embed this excellence through every aspect of Gildredge House as it grows to full capacity in 2018/19.

Your principal role is to provide IT Technician support to the staff and students of Gildredge House, in collaboration with the IT Support Provider. You will be expected to perform general maintenance of the school’s defined computer equipment and resolve identified technical problems, promoting through your role the appropriate use of IT across the curriculum with staff and students. You will undertake first line support for hardware/software/networking/user problems by analysis of problems, faults and breakdowns and escalate to, and liaison with, external engineers/ technicians and service providers as necessary. Your will have concern for the management and support of the school network infrastructure including maintenance, upgrades and documentation of LANs and wireless networking, in order to make it easily accessible to the school community in support of the school’s needs and objectives.

Your work activities may vary, depending on the school calendar, but typically include maintaining secure user access to systems and applications, monitoring use of system by users, with routine/spot checks to ensure appropriate use is maintained. You will also oversee all aspects of appropriate filtering of internet sites and maintaining records of any changes. You will support users in use of Windows operating system; Microsoft Office applications & other education focused software; Mac OSX devices and associated software; iOS devices (iPads) and apps, including development and promotion of best practice.

You need to possess strong technical skills and be highly efficient and organised. You will be articulate and able to deal sensitively with a variety of situations with senior leaders, teachers, administration staff, students, parents and external visitors such as IT providers and school governors. The ability to be clear and assertive whilst remaining calm, composed, tactful and flexible is essential.

It is expected that the post holder will be available to work during part of the Summer holidays, particularly in August, in order to ensure that the school’s IT systems, hardware and software are set up in readiness for the new academic year.
