About the Role
The South Downs School is an outstanding (Ofsted 2014) academy special school that educates children aged 3 to 11 with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities including ASD, PMLD and complex needs. There are around 125 pupils on roll. The academy is part of The Southfield Trust which includes a Secondary special academy with which it works closely.
The Governors wish to appoint a dynamic and inspirational assistant head teacher who will work with the very talented staff team and help ensure the school continues to provide an outstanding education to all its pupils.
This post will provide an excellent opportunity for an aspiring head teacher to take the next steps in their career in a motivated and supportive environment. There will be a teaching commitment.
We are looking for a person who: • has a passion and a commitment to improving outcomes for all young people with SEN; • has experience of working at a strategic level to contribute towards self-evaluation and school improvement; • is a strategic thinker who can balance fresh ideas with the experience of applying established good practice; • is highly motivated and energetic with a track record of successful school improvement; • can competently and effectively lead staff in elements of the School Improvement Plan; • has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of educational and community partners; • is an outstanding teacher and will be able to take a lead on all areas relating to teaching including curriculum and assessment; • is prepared to be involved in the wider life of the school.
