About the Role

Assistant Director of Learning - Maths

A CAREER OPPORTUNITY IN A MILLION Come and join the most successful Maths department in the county. Applications are requested from experienced or recently qualified teachers with the ambition to develop their leadership skills and move on to a senior role (a more senior role will be considered for the right candidate). We are seeking an excellent teacher of Maths to take on this 2 i/c role in this very high achieving department. Top 3% of schools nationally for VA in maths. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with two experienced Directors of Learning and be supported in developing their career ambitions.

The Maths Department The department consists of a team of 7 specialist Maths teachers, a HLTA and a specialist TA. Each of our 7 Maths rooms is equipped with a promethean board and the department also has the use of its own IT suite.

Classes are set from Year 7 onwards and sophisticated tracking systems are in place, which tightly monitor the progress of students towards achieving success. Class sizes are flexible to ensure all students are given the right teaching and the opportunity to make the right progress.

We teach our own bespoke 5 year curriculum that is designed to maximise the potential of every student. We believing in not being constrained though and adopt a teach to the students not to the Scheme of work approach in our planning which seeks to support the students at a level appropriate for them. Within the department there is constant exploration of Mathematical pedagogy to develop better student understanding. The team are very cohesive and support each other effectively in a very collaborative environment. They strive to ensure students achieve both high standards of academic achievement in Maths and also an appreciation of the importance of Maths in the world around them. Regardless of past levels of success the striving never stops. Despite being entirely average on entry at KS2 in last year’s cohort 82% of our students achieved A*-C in their Maths and 36% A*-A. It ranked in the top 1% of departments nationally for progress made which would place it within the top 40 departments in the country.
