About the Role

Assistant Headteacher for the Infants Permanent full time class based post Starting 01 September 2016

Bourne is a happy, popular, diverse and challenging school. We are situated in the heart of Eastbourne, within commuting distance of Brighton and Hove. Our community represents many cultures, languages and ethnic groups, and our families are very supportive of our work.

The school was inspected in November 2014 and was removed from Special Measures. Leadership and Management, Behaviour and Safety and The Early Years were judged to be good. The inspection report says that: “All areas of the school’s work have improved since the previous inspection. Leaders have good capacity to improve the school further.” It also says that “Staff share a determination to improve outcomes for pupils and are proud to work at the school. Together, they have ensured that the school is a harmonious community where pupils behave respectfully and enjoy learning.”

We are proud to have:-

  • A vibrant and diverse school community
  • Enthusiastic, friendly and well-mannered children
  • Hardworking, dedicated and supportive staff
  • Positive relationships with parents
  • A commitment to continuing professional development

Applications are invited from motivated and experienced Infant teachers, who are seeking to develop their career and management experience by taking on the leadership of the four year groups in this phase. The vacancy presents an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to work in an innovative, challenging, supportive and rapidly improving school.

Bourne Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

Please contact the school. Application information is available from the school, and completed applications should be sent to the Stephanie Thompson, the school’s bursar. Visits to the school are warmly welcomed.

The closing date for applications is 3.30pm on Monday 16th May, with interviews scheduled for the week beginning Monday 23rd May

This post is covered by the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2009.

The school will need to ensure that they are not knowingly employing a person who is disqualified under the 2009 Regulations in connection with relevant childcare provision.  Accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate to the school, by completing a self-declaration form as part of the pre-employment checks process, that they have not been disqualified under the 2009 Regulations.

If the preferred candidate is found to be disqualified under the 2009 Regulations, the offer of employment will be subject to the application by the preferred candidate to Ofsted for a waiver and the receipt of a waiver from Ofsted.

Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.   This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff will be expected to hold or be willing to obtain Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau).
