About the Role
Initially based at Service Headquarters in Eastbourne, then based at the new Service Headquarters in Lewes from Spring 2017.
An opportunity has arisen for a highly disciplined and experienced project manager to support the delivery of a critical mobile communications project on behalf of East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (ESFRS) and West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (WSFRS).
The Emergency Services Mobile Communication Programme (ESMCP) is a cross government programme to replace the existing mobile communications service for the three emergency services with a new commercial system based on 4G.
The intended scope of ESMCP will include 44 police forces, 50 fire and rescue services (including those in Scotland and Wales) and 13 Ambulance Trusts. A range of other civil contingency user organisations will also join ESMCP as second tier users. Overall this means that the system is likely to have approximately 300,000 users.
The fire service transition on to the new network begins with the mobilisation phase in 2016 and will be complete by January 2020 by which time all fire services will be in a steady state. Both ESFRS and WSFRS are due to transition by the end of September 2019.
Working full time the project manager will coordinate and manage ESFRS and WSFRS project responsibilities, project staff and persons seconded to the ESMCP project, and will manage the overall co-ordination and delivery of the ESMCP project into both ESFRS and WSFRS.
You will be required to manage ESFRS and WSFRS responsibilities for procurement, configuration, implementation, management and maintenance issues arising from ESMCP as advised by the national or regional project team, or the project executive where appropriate.
In addition, you will be required to represent ESFRS and WSFRS on the regional implementation team and at national level where required. Some overnight travel may therefore be required.
