About the Role

Emergency Planning Officers are responsible for ensuring that the Local Authorities and Fire Service are in compliance with the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and the new public health duty under National Health Service Act 2006. This role includes the development and exercising of both Emergency and Business Continuity Plans, the delivery of training in emergency management and support, and the promotion of Business Continuity management. Membership of either the Emergency Planning Society or the Business Continuity Institute is encouraged. The Emergency Planning service is delivered via a partnership arrangement and as such the team works at various locations in support of partnership members and is overseen by a Partnership Board. The team provides the Local Authority 24/7 on call service for emergencies.

East Sussex County Council is a very successful and ambitious authority with a strong track record of delivery. We are seeking to appoint an experienced Emergency Planning Officer as part of our partnership arrangements for emergency planning in East Sussex.

The East Sussex Resilience and Emergencies Partnership is in place between the County Council, four of the five district/borough councils and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. The post holder will be responsible for providing support and advice to members of the partnership to enable them to discharge their duties under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. The main duties will be to develop emergency planning in a wide context, including business continuity planning and providing support for lead officers during an emergency. The partnership also supports the Sussex Resilience Forum and the successful candidate will take an active part in this activity. The post holder will be expected to participate in the provision of the out of hours ESCC Emergency Planning Team 24/7 on call arrangements.
