About the Role

East Sussex Children's Services, working with the Department for Education, are seeking an exceptional candidate to lead and deliver the Hastings Opportunity Area, an ambitious programme of social change which aims to improve the wellbeing, educational outcomes and life opportunities of children and young people in Hastings.

Opportunity Areas (OAs) are social mobility 'cold spots' where the Department for Education is prioritising resource and bringing local and national partners together to break the link between background and destination; to improve social mobility for all children and young people, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Skilled in both relationship management and programme management, the successful candidate should have a proven track record of delivery to a high level against ambitious targets. You should be passionate about improving life chances for children and young people and have the skills to work across a range of different partners and stakeholders. Your main purpose will be to work with partners in the Hastings area to drive improvements in early years; school quality and attainment; parenting and the home learning environment; post-16 education; access to higher education; and aspiration and access to advice for young people.

The position is based in Eastbourne in the beautiful county of East Sussex although due to nature of the role a considerable amount of time will be spent in Hastings.  This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a nationally led initiative that will have local impact.

Additional Information

This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau). Please note that we require evidence of an overseas police check if you have lived or worked abroad.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.

From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.

Equal Opportunities

East Sussex County Council is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitable candidates, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. All applications are treated on merit.
