About the Role

The Governing Body of Bodiam C E Primary school are seeking to appoint a self motivated and friendly staff member to join our staff team.  This is an important role, crucial to maintaining our school premises in a safe and attractive condition.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a good understanding of health and safety requirements and will be able to undertake cleaning, routine maintenance, basic repairs and DIY tasks.

Sound literacy, numeracy and ICT skills are essential to meet the record keeping requirements of the post.

The post holder will be responsible for the cleanliness, maintenance and security of the school.   The role involves:

Cleaning our well maintained premises in term time and carry out the non-term holiday deep cleans;

Caretaking - opening up and closing our site. Disposing of waste, keeping our outdoor areas swept and maintained, recording energy data, replacing lighting tubes, operating the heating system and carrying out/recording various weekly and monthly health and safety checks.

Maintenance - carrying out maintenance tasks such as decorating, repairs, basic plumbing, gulley and gutter maintenance etc

As a primary key holder, the Caretaker will be required to attend out of hours emergencies.

The approximate split of hours for each aspect of the role are:

10 cleaning hours, 8 caretaking hours and 6 maintenance/handywork hours.

Ideally, we would like a split shift working pattern so that the Caretaker can open up the School in the morning and close it at night.   However, we are willing to consider working all of the hours pm only.  

Working hours if split shift:

Morning Shift:

Monday to Friday 6.30am to 8.30 am

Afternoon Shift:

Monday & Tuesday 3.30pm to 6.30pm

Wednesday & Thursday 4.00pm to 6.30pm

Friday 3.30pm to 6.30pm

Working hours if non-split shift:

Monday to Friday - Cleaning and Basic Caretaking 3.15pm to 6.45pm

Monday, Wednesday & Friday - Maintenance hours 1.00pm to 3.00pm (Negotiable subject to the needs of the school)

This post is paid for 52 weeks per year which includes 21 days paid holiday (rising to 25 days after 5 years service).

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
