We are a successful, modern University with clear values and a long history in Higher Education. We offer quality education and an excellent student learning experience in a beautiful region of the South Coast of England.

We are seeking to recruit an Assistant Data Protection Officer to support the work of the Data Protection Officer (DPO). This is a crucial role to support the University in meeting its compliance obligations under data protection legislation.

Whilst working closely with the DPO, the Assistant Data Protection Officer will also be expected to work with a degree of independence, using their excellent interpersonal skills to work proactively with staff across the University fielding general data protection queries and providing general data protection advice and guidance as well as taking a proactive approach in raising awareness of data protection across the university through a network of departmental contacts.

Specific areas of responsibility and involvement will cover amongst other things documenting and auditing personal data collections, co-ordinating subject access requests and drafting correspondence, collating information relating to personal data breaches, assisting with data protection impact assessments, providing data protection training, acting as the first point of contact for the Data Protection mailbox, producing a monthly data protection staff bulletin, documenting and maintaining appropriate logs and records for reporting purposes and assisting in identifying key risk areas or gaps in compliance. It is also essential that the post-holder has a keen interest in data protection compliance from an IT perspective and is highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Sharepoint applications.
