Plans to build a brand new lifeboat station in Eastbourne have been approved by the council this week. The aim is to merge two existing stations into one, to be based at Sovereign Harbour.
The changes will mean that crew facilities will be improved and the station will be updated as a whole. As it currently stands, the inshore station based at Fisherman's Green is incredibly outdated and almost non operational. With the pans given the go-ahead, this will no longer exist; the main lifeboat station will now solely be at Sovereign Harbour.
Work will take place to extend the existing station allowing more room for training equipment and better facilities.
Watch this space for further updates on these reconstruction plans; an exciting year lies ahead for the lifeboat team in Eastbourne.
